  1. Researching the occurrence, detection, epidemiology, and control of potato diseases caused by pathogens (bacteria, fungi, viruses), pests, and weeds.
  2. Unrevealing the complex interactions in the system "pest - plant - the environment" to limit pesticides and prevent unfavorable epidemiological and climatic changes.
  3. Testing the efficacy of plant protection products for registration and implementation and dissemination of protection programs to agricultural practice.
  4. Biochemical, molecular, microbiological, and physiological studies of the impact of abiotic (drought, high temperature) and biotic (bacteria, viruses, and fungi) stresses on various cultivars and breeding lines of potato
  5. Development of new and improved molecular, biochemical, microbiological, and immunological methods/materials for diagnosing viral, fungal, and bacterial (including quarantine) pathogens of potatoes.
  6. Researching the ability of potato cultivars to recruit beneficial microorganisms and their impact on the potato tolerance to biotic stresses  ( to reduce the level of pesticides) and the efficacy of food intake from the soil (to reduce the level of fertilization).
  7. Assessment of varietal identity of materials intended for seed reproduction and commercial production of potatoes.
  8. Activities of the Potato Gene Bank related to the introduction to the Bank of new, as well as maintenance, renewal, healing, making available to external entities, including for creative and conservative breeding of domestic and foreign centers of the resources (as in vitro plants/micro- and mini-tubers) in vitro genetic potato cultivars and breeding lines from domestic and world potato collections gathered at the Bank.
  9. Disseminating the results of research and implementation works and expert opinions for external entities on the broadly understood subject related to the potato.
  10. Publishing house of the "Ziemniak Polski" quarterly, as a specialist scientific and advisory journal for the potato industry.
  11. Specialistic training for employees of Polish Inspectorate of Plant Health and Seed Inspection, Agriculture Advising Centers, phytopharmaceutical companies, producers, potato-related scientists, and potato breeding.
